In this chapter of my freshman year I found myself getting a little annoyed. The chapter starts off by talking about how American students are percieved by international students at AnyU. These international students made it sound like there experience at college was not very welcoming and fun. They said things like american students were not outgoing and that we are not hospitable. The international students found it almost insulting that not one of the american students asked how they got to where they are now and what their life was like as a child. But as an american student myself, I read this and think the exact opposite. I would think that these international students would want to be treated like they were american students. I wouldn't think they would want to be asked a million and one questions about their past like a zoo exhibit. What if they had a bad past? They wouldn't want to talk about it. Once again, this all comes back to culture. They think that it is strange that we don't ask them to go out to eat and pay for their meals. They feel it is strange that we don't ask them these questions, or want to know all about them. But if we were to go to their countries, we would find things unusual their as well. No matter where you go in the world, something or someone will be different from you, whether you travel to the west coast of the United States or you travel to China, things will always be culturally different.
